Not sure what the standard gearing is on a 2003 749 as the one I bought has been downgeared. So whose gona surprise me with there in depth knowledge of teeth on the front and rear sprockect please???
Any suggestion on the gbest set up for the above with racing ECU and full termi system 50mm with air filters??
Agree with Duck on the standard gearing on the 749, 14 & 39. I've been told not to go below a 14 tooth on the front, a 13 tooth sprocket is too small a diameter for the chain.
Normal practice seems to be increasing the size of the rear sprocket anywhere from 41 to 43 tooth.
Not sure what works best, 41, 42 or 43 ... I'm sure someone will be along soon who has done the mod and can give better advice.
The main problem that arises from going bigger on the rear is you need a longer chain to keep your wheel base length.
14,39 if that is std is a lot better than the old 748r of 14,36!
If you do go up at the rear, not only would i get a longer chain to compensate for the biiger sprocket, i would also go longer still to achieve as near as i could to 500mm between the swing arm pivot and the centre of the wheel.
mmmmmmmm curious. I spoke to Nelly about going up on the rear sprocket a few teeth and he thought the standard chain would be OK and by moving the rear wheel forward slightly may help with quicker "turning in".
I went up to a 41 tooth rear, with corresponding longer chain, and increased wheelbase, apparently for stability. Of course, you should measure you're ride height before the change, and adjust accordingly after the new sprocket/chain has been fitted.
41 teeth makes it feel much more lively, especially round town!

yeah id go with that, I like the idea of the extra stability. You use the std chain with a bigger sprocket then look at it. The bike just dont look right.
The 500 mm thing is something jhp said...........same for the 998 etc... although you struggle to get5 any where near with a std swing arm. The 999 etc has a longer swing arm as std!

Surely it would be better to buy a new alarm?! The Datatool cables are all black coloured and every one would have to be marked as they are removed. Some installers solder the joints for a permanant job.It all makes for a labour intensive job to remove and refix an alarm. Then you have the problem where to mount the alarm on the duke,...some of the cables may not be long enough... IMO,it would be better to leave the alarm where it is and buy another for the Duke.
