official ( New) Highway code !!

well i just nipped out and done a cpl of thousand miles in 48hrs
Nothing unusual there then.
Anyway i left the swiss boarder yesterday at 4pm and decided i would catch the last boat at 23.30hrs from Dunkirk
As it was, i was early, and it got me thinking how easy it is to Knock in some seriously quick miles in europe, so i set the cruise on 100mph and arrived at Dunkirk at 22.45

Anyway, The point is europen Drivers (could we Learn something)

They Indicate all the time they are passing another vehicle, and then they pull back into lane 1

They seem to set a pace and stick to it!
They never seem to fill the space your in, and force you too slow down! etc etc

I went through temps of Minus 14degs and snow storms, but the traffic just kept moving (no grind to a stop) and at one point there was a Gritter type lorry in the middle lane happily gritting, with cars and trucks passing him on both sides!
and still the pace was good.

so when i arrived in the uk at 00.45 and head up to the M20, first thing i come across is a Polish Truck doing about 20MPH in the fast lane up the hill out of Dover!!!!
There was nothing else on the road , so the only thing i can think of was, he still thought it was the inside lane

After i eventually passed him (up the inside) I got cracking, and the next thing i came across was the new English version of the "Highway code" as performed by the guy who when i was in lane3 at 90mph would do this

Maneuver
Signal
Mirror

Translation..

wait for vehicle approaching at speed

Pull out of lane 2 into lane 3

Indicate/signal to tell bloke approching at speed ,that you have moved in front of him

Mirror to see if said blokes Brakes are any good

when Geeza who has pulled out infront of you, finally passes the vehicle (20mins later)pulls back in, you look at him and he is giving "You" the ****er sighn as you go bye

You then arrive at clackets lane for fuel, pull on the pump, put said nozzel into tank and wait and wait and wait

then a foreign voice comes over tanoy

Please pay for your petrol first

erm i dont know how much petrol i need

Ok then it's off around the M25 at 2.30 AM to find that they have left the new variable speed limit lights on (50Mph)

so not wishing to try my luck (just in case) i cruise all the way at 50mph up to the M40 split

Finally i get going again and sitting just under (90Mph) on the M40 i get's up to where Prodrive is,
around Banbury/oxford area!
By now there is nothing behind me and nothing infront either Road is Crystal clear

Just as i'm thinking my warm bed !
yes you guessed a rapid approaching car in the mirror!

Next thing we have the blues and two's

the way they pulled me, i thought someone had told them there was some of that nicked money(Bank raid) in my car

first words out of Mr plods mouth

IN a Hurry Sir are we?????????????:flam

AND PROCEEDS to tell me the dangers of driving in such trecherous weather!

Good news, was after i had explained who i was and where i'de been etc etc

I was told have a safe journey and remember "Tiredness" can kill

nevermind the ferkin standard of driving is this country i thought!

food for thought eh?...mav

Speed Cameras

http://www.e-database.co.uk/

This resource is really good, if you haven't already found it for yourself. It's the national database of all speed camera captures in the country.

I've already got a login sorted, just type states for the username and united as the password to save yourself time registering.

Good hunting!
