MS XP Pro - Recycle Bin error

Hi Folks,

Me again, IT numpty or "Complete Jonah" whichever takes your fancy.

Been having a problem with my recycle bin recently.

Basically whenever I delete a sub-directory from my machine, and it ends up in the Recycle Bin, I then cannot remove it from there or any other single files that are in the bin at the same time.

When I try to "Empty the Recycle Bin" in the normal way, I get the attached error.

If I open the Recycle Bin as a Windows Explorer type window and try and directly delete the Sub-Dirs from there I get the message again. I can however delete single files from this window but not the Sub-Dirs.

I formatted my machine (AGAIN) on Saturday and reinstalled my whole OS and programs. Now after a couple of days of work, I am back to square one with the Recycle Bin not emptying now there are sub-dirs in it.

Running XP Pro with SP2. Done a Google search and nothing is to be found along the lines of my error

Anyone have any ideas (apart from chucking the sodding thing in the skip of course!!!!!).

Many thanks, Guy

(PS couldn't have a more perfect avatar could I!!!!!)

Guy,i don't know about th eproblem, but do know that you can do a repair of XP using the cd rom, which puts everything back as it sure be,but doesn't delete or reset all your stuff like a fresh install/format.

If I remember correctly - and not sure if it helps you, but if you hold the shift button down when you press delete, it deletes it permanently - ie it does not go to the recycle bin.

Not sure if that's a good workaround for you, might help though?

Tim

Sorry Guy - a blank here; had a mootch on mamma.com but nothing seems to match your particular problem.

I wonder if its related to the Permissions for the folder/sub-folder?

Are these folders from another machine - or ones you created yourself??

Just a thought.

Good luck - Frank

Shift+delete will by pass the re-cycle bin and just delete it completely,if that's any use.

Have tried a repair Rich thanx to no avail.

Sadly the problem arises also when I try to copy a folder from another drive - That folder contains subfolders too.

It also arises when I try to create a new menu item in the Start Menu (ie. to set up a 'directory' called Microsoft so that I can put all my items/shortcuts into it like Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc)

Tis really driving me crazy now as I can't organise my drives or pics from the race meetings etc as I can't do anything that involves renaming or deleting directories....
