Not really...

<gory details>

I had the bolt fitted about 5 weeks ago under local anaesthetic. They make an incision into the gum and "peel" it back to reveal the bone where they place the implant.

I had the root of that tooth remove about 10 years ago - the dentist had been drilling it to fill it but without realising he weakened it. I woke up that night after hearing a loud "crack" but didn't think anything of it. I then realised that my tooth was wobbly - I'd managed to split it at the root, so it had to come out.

Anyway, because the bone had collapsed into the void left by the root, he drilled a pilot hole and then I had 9 taps of the hammer to split the bone. While conscious.

No it didn't hurt but it wasn't very pleasant!

The dentist then matched up a M3x8 (seriously!) implant core and put it in with a ratchet socket set.

The gum is then put back over and stitched in place - I needed seven in total - and left to heal for six months.

The bone grows onto the titanium to give you a perfect base for a false tooth.

Apart from the taps with the hammer and the clicking of the ratchet socket, it wasn't too bad at all...

So it's actually fixing ten years of problems I've had with dodgy fixes and patch-up jobs to something caused by a cr@p dentist in the first place.
