UPDATE:

The website move is planned for the weekend of Sat 6th / Sun 7th February - that's this coming weekend.

I will put the forum into "read-only" mode so that no new posts can be made. We'll then backup the forum and all the files and copy these to the new webserver and repoint the DNS to the new server.

As the DNS setting propagate you will see the new webserver and this will be running as normal, so it will appear as if the forum has been turned back on again.

Once we're happy that everything has moved across I can shut down the old web server and archive the backups.

Everything should be up and running and hopefully you didn't notice any downtime

I've continued to monitor the website and improve the service and configuration that we are using, so it's now time to decommission the old server, and make a big saving on club bills!

Fingers crossed that it doesn't all disappear...

Thanks Frank. I'm really happy that it's worked out so well as it means that the club is in a good position to recover a dead website (unlike before!) and also that I've learnt enough about LAMP (Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP) to know what I'm doing
The cost saving will really help the club as well, as it was our biggest single out-going cost and a massive reduction in the overheads which will allow us to improve and grow significantly in the future.
