As others have said the motor is a Deep sump on the S, very similar spec to the 2001 996r. The cooking 998 has different cams if my memory serves me correctly you used to be able to get a Ducati performance kit for a cooking 998 to upgrade to S cams??? But nothing could be done about the sump??
DUK might have only brought 27 bikes in but IMHO there are quite a few parallels about.
Very popular bike as it was a 996r with a bit less bling for a good few thousand pounds less.
