I've a track day rear seat unit that has no fixing/mounting points at the front end - where the hinge bracket would be on a standard unit. I have the rear end sorted as the unit has moulded threads to take the locking catch (which ive swapped over from my standard unti). But Ive not sorted the forward end.

Has anyone any suggestions (better still photos) of how they have fixed their TD seat units to a BP subframe, without replicating the whole hinge bracket thingy.

Oh, and I should add:

without me having to resort to hours fabricating some intricate metalwork structure - with what little tools I have at my disposal (ie, my kitchen work surface and a few items of cutlery!!!!)

I know it sounds like a way off suggestion, but why not buy a new bracket, as that's the only bit you need? You don't need the hinge parts - just the bracket which screws into the seat.

Cost is about 3 quid from a dealer for the bit you need that screws into the seat...

Failing that, why not just take it off your road seat unit and use that for the trackday?

Or am I missing something really obvious?

If I understand correctly - all you need to do is swap the hinge section (U-shape bracket) that's fitted to the standard seat over to the track seat unit? If you're using the standard seat pad then the threads are there already, if not, all you'll need is a couple of holes in the track seat unit and a couple of nuts and bolts - its a simple swap, or am I missing something???

As above, get a bracket and drill the seat unit to bolt through it.
Use your standard seat pad if poss and theres no need to fiddle with nuts and bolts.
If your not using the standard seat then you will have to bolt it to the track seat unit by drilling it using a template made from your standard seat unit if youknow what I mean?
Careful with the screws you use to mount it to the seat unit.
They need to be countersunk or they will foul on the locating pegs as you try to locate them.
Use the standard screws if your using the seat pad, buy countersunk M6 x 8 or 10 if not and use some big washers on the seat side of the unit but make sure they dont catch the tank!

Yeah, ok, thought it was kind of stupid question....

I only asked as the TD unit is made of much thinner plastic than the standard unit and so my thought was it might crack/break at the mountiing points when I sit my fat ass on it.

I'll have another looky at the weekend.

mine has a bracket which has been riveted on, the seat is foam and not original so nothing to srew into, works ok except its a made up bracket and not a duc one.

Make sure you use your seat though as this takes all the weight onto the subframe. If you rely on the front and rear fixing points of the trackday unit coupled up with only a foam seat pad you will put too much stress onto the front fixings for sure!

You may also find that with your seat cut into the new unit the rear bracket may not fit and locate in the catch. This is common and I have had some brackets made up which use the existing rubbers and raise the rear so it all fits snugly.

There was a thread about this some time ago and I posted some pictures of the brackets which sadly got wiped off the PC so I'll try and find it or take another picture.

JB - does the unit take the standard seat? If so, you should be OK, as the seat pad will mount onto the track seat unit, but the pads on the bottom of the seat pad will sit on the subframe and no weight will be taken by the seat unit.

However, if the front of the track seat unit does not have a large hole in it to allow the standard seat pad to sit directly onto the subframe, then you may be putting pressure onto the seat unit and not the subframe directly (not sure if that made sense????)

Anyhow, if you can use a standard seat pad, then this is best, and make sure that you have a large hole in the front of the track seat unit to allow the seat pad to sit directly onto the subframe and you're sorted.

If its a complete seat unit (without large hole in the front section) then you can use a foam seat pad type thingy, but you'll need to have some sort of padding between the subframe and seat unit, to prevent the seat from taking all the stress. I had this on my SPS and used some thick foam under the seat unit to prevent this.

If you're unsure, send me pics of the seat unit it might make it easy for me to tell.

Similer thing Tim.
I use some of the rubbers that mount at the rear of the seat unit to keep it sturdy, that sit onto the seat catch bracket.
Four of these mounted where the frame rails would normally rub the seat unit take all the weight of the rider and prevent stressing the seat unit.
High density foam would be another option as you use.
