Unless your really careful, i would take the tie rod off to undo the locknuts. To do this you will need to support the rear end by hanging it from the roof. You could use a tie down strap if you have one just to take the weight off the rear end. Dont forget one of the threads if a left hand thread. ...and, measure the length of the rod before you go adjusting!. Once you have the nuts undone successfully, lubricate them well with copperslip etc. then only adjust it a turn at a time, if that.

Alternatively buy a ride height tool from Harv748, youll know exactly where you stand then.
