Paul

Check the part numbers moulded into the panels, the reds and yellows have different part numbers.Get the parts manual PDF from the ducati site and cross reference. Yellow should be on white primer, in my experience I have never seen a genuine yellow panel over red, sounds like they have been resprayed.List the part numbers and I will tell you if its a genuine yellow or resprayed red.

they are different numbers because they are different colours.
when you buy a panel from ducati it doesn't come plain so you can paint it

"they are different numbers because they are different colours".Thats basically what i have said, so the theory that all panels are reds or begin as red is incorrect.
I think Ducati did it occassionally at the end of production runs though, if the story I heard from a Ducati dealer is true (taken with a pinch of salt).
Ducati do supply a plain panel though, but again different part number. The part number will tell all

Long live Yellow Ducatis, the best colour by far.

For example rear seat for 748s
Part number 483.2.019.2PG Rear fairing (GREY)
483.2.019.1AA Rear fairing (RED)
483.2.019.2AB Rear fairing (YELLOW)
This follows on for 748 996 998 998s panels, so I assume all Ducati panels.
So back to original enquiry I am 99% certain your panels Paul are resprayed (not by Ducati though!)
