Make sure you are applying it AFTER a ride when the chain is hot, the wax and white residue are not so bad if you do it that way. With the chain expanding due to the heat you get into all the nooks and crannies.
Only balls ache is if you are cold and wet and just want to get inside.
Quick wipe of the chain before you head off out next time gets rid of any excess and you are safe in the knowledge that any you have added has worked it's way well into the chain and rings in particular all the time it has been standing since your last ride out.
I suppose the same advice rings true for WD40 which i have also used in the past and had no problems with.
Cheers guys. I always use wd40 on my mountain bike chainset as it seems to keep it clean and corrosion free even through the stickiest winter mud, even makes it easier to clean.
Think i'll give it a go for a while but not convinced about the flingy-ness of it quite yet !
I've got a scottoiler. Chain has now done 23,000 miles with no sign of it wearing out. It only gets adjusted when the wheel comes out for tyre changes so thats about every 4000 miles. It lasts for around 750 to 1000 miles per filling as well. Most people have them set way to high hence oil all over the wheel and tyre etc.

I have one too on my 1000SS, fitted it after my first chain snapped despite being very good about cleaning, lubing etc. I have to admit to being one of those people who had it set too high initially and had oil all over the place made a right mess. Now all working okay and the chain is in excellent condition although Ive only done some 7K since it was fitted including a ride to Italy and back but its looking really good.
Scottoilers for me from now on though Im really impressed.
