I am on T Mobile which gave the free phone and annual upgrade but guess everyone seems to do that now.

Thanks for the info guys - Antony, T5mission and Dibble thanks for the offer of kit, but I have now got myself a new phone.

Basically Mrs Rattler took the opportunity to upgrade her phone package to T-Mobile T-Flex (and a very good deal) - part of this deal included a an additional free LG - "3G" phone and free for 12 months rental (pay then claim back), which I now have.

So I'm happy - I'll send out my new number once the network's activated.

I know you have a phone now, but there are loads of deals out there, check this one ....

£20 a month.. so £240 a year and they credit you back 3 lots of £80... Wouldn't work for me, cos there are no texts and all the minutes are only to orange or landline and only between 7 and 7. But the phone is worth a couple of hundred and you get loads of free minutes per month.
