as long as the pump sits flat across the mounting plate (equal spacing on all 3 screws) - it should be fine - not sure what you mean about the curve????

Writing it a lot may be strange, but if you say it a lot you sound like a brass band.

No idea on the origin (pompe in French and Italian).

What is the etymology of etymology?

And if something isn't defunct, is it funct?
