Switched the two black relays over.
No joy.
Fuel pump starts up. Press the ignition..Nothing.

starter solonoid? - worth checking if pumps have primed.
Any click at all from starter?

CK....There was nothing when pressing the starter.

Went back to the bike after lunch and the thing started. Which is even more of a worry as the problem could be intermittant.

Chris... your only jealous.

It is possible to arc between the two contacts of the starter solenoid, therefore bypassing it (BIG screwdriver - lots of care).

If the starter spins - your solenoid might well be defective.

Good luck

Clint, I had the exact same problem. Intermittent failure with my 750ie and swapping the relays didn't make any difference.

At first it was just the occasional 'non-start' after a ride, but it quickly worsened into cutting out while I was riding - I had some nasty moments in traffic

I replaced both of them, at around £4 each, and it's been perfect for months now.

I realise it might not be the same problem, but it's a cheap start at solving it if it turns out to be.

I always have a spare relay under the seat on mine...Worth the £4 for peace of mind on those winter rides, Clint!

I had the same as bambam. But if the pump always primes the relay shouldn't be the problem.
