On my 999s I have gone a slightly different (tidier & oem look) route as you can see from these pics - the end of the handle bar is left open - no plug - I then bought two bar end mirrors from Motrax - removed the mirrors (keeping all the brackets) and then mounted 2 reservoirs which are the same size as the rear brake reservoir(cant understand why you need such a big reservoir as the standard one anyway) and bingo - looks really good - no mess no fuss and most importantly - ITS FULLY ADJUSTABLE - cause you know how important that is to us Ducati owners!!!!
The mounting angle of the reservoirs is crucial in so much as they dont want to be in the same plane as the top yolk. When the vehicle is stationary and upright with the steering dead ahead..the max mark on the reservoir wants to be level with the ground to give an accurate full measurement.
plus i wouldnt want to drill or damage the original top yolk either.......
Thats why (drilling top yoke + reservoir angle) on my 999s I went the FULLY ADJUSTABLE route!!!
Everyone who has seen them say that they look very trick and "are they oem" etc etc
In any case - never had any issues with either setup - the actual amount of fluid that passes into and out of the sytem is almost zero once bled properly!
