Sounds like the clutch switch is not operating correctly.
Take a look under the clutch lever,.....see that little paddle switch?.....you may need to bend the paddle slightly.

Hi,
i have had a look at the metal strip poking out from the switch and it is running horitizontal at the moment i have bent it slightly out and in while holding in the clutch while a gear is selected and still nothing, i have noticed scratch marks on the fairing below it and i think at one time this might have been in contact with it .Can you confirm the position of this metal strip should be,

Hi, All sorted now ..went to the Hants regional meet at Popham and compared mine to another 999S and bent the strip back into position very carefully...nows starts in gear if the clutch lever is pulled in ...Cracking ride out weather was just right defo do again ...thanks guys for your input
