I did the same thing ages ago, I used this stuff called I think LIQUID METAL, its like a putty that you squeeze til it gets soft and warm them apply it in the hoe and it becomes HARD, I mean really hard, then I painted it, depending onthe size of the hole you cant see the difference.
I had mine on my bike for 2 years before I sold th bike.
