Skidlids, I have got to the same point, I have found with a pair of pliers and a bit of positive wiggling (and turning) of the wire they do come out. The pins have a barb which does come out undamaged (don't use excessive force though, I bent one barb back when I was a bit complacent, removed 6 with no problem) I then slightly bent the barbs outwards for a more positive lock and then reinserted and once locked with the yellow slide they were as strong as originally. I have been told by a NHS instrument electrician, there is a tool for folding the barbs, but I cannot see how it can be inserted and on these ecu connectors, the locking plate does the job of locking the barbs.
