After reading on various forums it appears that the majority are going with MCE who are giving the best quotes. Ducati Insurance are good but they seem to have increased their prices much more than most other insurers recently.

Try Adelaide Insurance in Belfast, they have won the Which best insurer a few times and are good to deal with. They guarantee to beat your cheapest quote by 10%.

I got my 848 insured through them for around £140 protected with legal and full breakdown, £400 excess.

Doing comaprison searches the Bike Insurer was previously the cheapest using MCE and Bike Devil ( also MCE but with no excess at all)

Thanks for the suggestions. Ducati Insurance quoted £1071 and stipulated that a tracker has be fitted.

I'll keep you posted.

Can you put that into context, ie what did you have before, how much was it worth and how much were you paying?

Given that a 1199S Tricolore is nearly £25k, I'm not surprised they want a tracker on it!!

I had a 1098S before, owned for 3 years and agreed valued at 10.5K and was paying £235 full comp with proctected NCB (9+years ncb) with Motorcycle Direct. Prior to that Ive had a 996, a 998, a couple of R1's and a Fireblade so its not as though Im new to 1000cc+ bikes.

True, but coming from something less than half the value is going to see a large increase in your premium, naturally.

£235 of £10,500 is 2.23%
£1071 of £23,495 is 4.5%

So yes it's an increase, but it's not as big as it seems!

There are a lot more factors to take into account as well as your history; bike value, rarity, replacement costs, "stealability", etc. A lot of these things will be unknown to the insurance industry so they are being over-cautious on finding a price until those costs become clearer.

It may also be that the insurers think that anyone who can afford £24k on a bike can also afford £1k on insurance...

All of your points are valid and I do understand the underwriters point of view but its just a bit of surprise to see such a big jump in the premium. The calls continue... worst quote so far £9197.19 which was most bemusing - no idea how they managed to come up with that.

At the end of the day its got to be insured by next Friday at the latest

Panigale "S" Insurance ????

E-mail from E-Bike = "underwriters won't entertain"
Bollox, scour internet for quotes, £9000 odd pounds !
Call from "the bike insurer" we can do a policy for 15 months, £1288,
Answer - fu*k off - way too much
after 3 more calls, final quote, £998.58p
NO - still too expensive.
"I'll speak to underwriters again - ring you back"
Meanwhile = Ducati insurance quote on-line = £577 for 12 months = RESULT me thinks !
Bike insurer rings, tell him I've got a quote on-line, and I tell him (well - nearly the right figure) what it is, the thump of his jaw dropping could be clearly heard,
Equity red star - £570, comp etc, "can I ring you back" ?
Of course you can - but not with a silly quote
End result, 15 month policy, legal,breakdown,helmet + leathers,courtesy bike,90 day Europe cover, £566-36p
I'm convinced these insurance companies all belong to the "society of Robbin Hoods" (or *******s) more like !
