Chicken strips

just read the post in the for sale where a chap is trying to sell his 996s. i know it was a bit tongue in cheek from weeksy, but what is the obsession with these "chicken strips"

Bottom line is a bike will go faster the more upright it is.

I do believe even Mr Ibbott talks about spending as least amount of time leant over as possible, and goes on to talk about squaring the corner off.

So in actual fact he must be a riding god by spending most time with the bike upright!

yours still 1 inch either side then??

Eh? err no. To go faster round a bend you have to lean more. True that if you move your body weight to the inside of the bike, then it will be more upright, but then that just allows you to lean a bit more to get yet more speed.
What Andy Ibbott refers to (I think) is that you can accelerate harder the more upright the bike is, so by squaring of the corner you get upright sooner and get on the power sooner, but at the apex you will still be leant right over.

What he actually advocates is turning the bike faster-the faster you turn it the less time it is leant over and the less lean angle you have to use. The result of this is that you can corner quicker for any set speed, and get on the power quicker as the bike is upright quicker.

yep, I'll go with that John.
and of course the rules change a bit to suit the bend, eg. Gerrards at Mallory must be at least 1/3 of a mile long, so you carry high corner speed simply because you spend so much time in there.

anybody remember GP rider Takazumi Katayama? He would keep the bike upright and really hang off the thing, one of the early riders to do that I think.

As for Gerrards I just can't get the hang of where I am supposed to be in there, it is so damn big and just goes on for ever I start getting bored, remember the old track how it was, all of sudden you would find yourself on the outside of the track as it tightened up and seemed to chuck you over there? Most odd.
