Hi Deej,

I thought the same as you mate but in the end went for an S. Its a 2002 one so has the smooooooooooth 998 style fairing. It has a single seat unit and carbon race cans so apart from the forks it looks just like an R. As you know i had an R6 before and im 100% sure you will still be able to keep up with your mates on the 748. I went for the S because its cheaper to buy run and insure. The saving will be spent on petrol and sticky tyres. I also found that i dont feel the need to ride as hard because i know i look far cooler then most other bikers and the 748 is as fun to ride at 70 as the R6 was at 130.
