Basically you're paying for it Mav... back when i first got into web site design, you used to be able to download an application from a various couple of places and use that, it would push you up to the top. But there are actually companies you pay to do this for you now.

Never pay for it - all the information is out there is you look for it.

Have a read through http://www.bruceclay.com/ as there's some interesting info in there and a couple of useful tools which will help (although it is a bit heavy going!)

Is it on the same domain name (URL) as before Mav? Google has a nasty habit of "sandboxing" new sites to see what happens with them before they are included in the indexes. That can be up to 9 monoths, and there is nothing you can do about it.

Another thing is that they may have got a new algorythm (happens from time to time) and are going though reindexing, in which case it will appear back shortly.

There are help pages on Google for webmasters that are quite informative.

All this assumes you have not been tempted to use tricks to try and fool Google. If you were up in the top few results before then I am guessing you are doing it honestly. Devices such as tiny background colour text and hidden content are outlawed and will get you blacklisted.

Just loaded your site with a more critical eye - first thing that comes to mind is that the first page a search engine spider will come to is the intro, which has very little content if you look at the page source in the browser.

There are no links frmo that page into the rest of your site, and the spider will not be able to click on the flash movie because it dones't see things like that (Flash is bad for search engines, as are frames).

You should definately include a series of text links along the bottom (not hidden, but can be discrete) to provide a way for the spider software to get in. I don't use flash, but I tihnk you might be able to include a "noflash" section to the page for browsers that do not see it, in the same way you provide a "noframes" section in a frameset that is visible if you cannot see frames. Search Engines will drop into those sections, and it is a legit way of providing a text intro and links to the rest of your site.

Also, use a good block of "alt text" on images and the flash object (or "title text" if alt is not applicable on flash) to provide a text description loaded with your keywords.

Hope that helps. U2U me if you want to ask anything, I'll try to help.

Iteresting thread Mav as I'm about to put up my first ever website for our small business, and get the feeling its just going to get lost amongst the millions of others out there!!!

Bit of reading required I think to make sure it appears on a search engine somewhere near the top!

Keywords is the answer check here. http://www.searchengines.com/keywords.html

We have our website if you place te domain name in search you will find it no problem, but the secret is to use keywords for the spiders, for example one keyword we use is 120 this is because not all ppl know the full domain name but know the software is called 120 something, so they type 120 in search and they will find our site. try google and type 120 you should see www.alcohol-soft.com ranked first. type 52 which is another of our software and you will most likely find us ranked 4-5 th

Interesting....just tried running 'nurburgring' through my weapon of choice at the moment which is http://www.mamma.com

I'm afraid (unless I missed it) - you didnt appear at all.

But - add 'nurburgring experience' and you instantly come in at positions 1, 3 & 5.

lots of sites even UK ones with 'nurburgring' in the title / URL I notice.

Good luck - Frank
