can anyone tell me the standard sproks and chain on a 1995 600ss??

I have a 44T rear sprocket at the moment?

The frame number is 0022777

I am very confused by apparent gearing suggestions - B and C have suggested totally different sprockets front and rear ?

and i have a 14T front??

according to the ducati parts list standard gearing is 15-41. This is also confirmed by my autodata manual.
chain is 520x98

is that for all models? the haynes book just says refer to manual!

if i go 'back to standard' how will it differ from 14/44?

15 / 41 is standard on all 600SS bikes, but it is over geared like most Ducatis.

14 / 41 is ok but I prefered 14 / 43 tbh.

if i go lower on the back sprocket what difference will this make ? ie higher / lower top speed?

Generally - smaller front = accleration

Larger rear = accleration

small front + large rear = mucho accleration

so it seems my bike is at the mucho accelleration end of the scale at 14/44!

if i go for a 14/42 can anyone tell me the chain length? Thanks

You should be fine with your current chain.

I've run everything from 14 / 39 to 15 / 45 on my chain and it always adjusted fine. The wheel will be further forward than currently, but not enough to make a real difference, maybe 2 or 3 swingarm marks at most.

You may want to be careful with 14 / 42 though - this is a 3x ratio, which means that the chain and sprockets will meet at the same place every 3 revolutions. This will cause increased wear - because it meets so often. You may see premature chain wear.

I'd be tempted to go for 14 / 41 as this doesn't mesh the gears as often. There's only a 0.1 difference in the output ratio, but it will increase your chain wear so it lasts longer.
