Angry Christmas Postal Scam, please read so your aware.

Worth being aware of....

Jeff

To all

Be aware there is a suspected Royal Mail postal scam.
Can you circulate this around especially as Xmas is fast approaching -
it has been confirmed by Royal Mail.
The Trading Standards Office are making people aware of the following scam:
A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that you need to contact them on 0906 6611911
(a premium rate number). DO NOT call this number, as this is a mail scam originating from >"urn:schemas-microsoft-comffice:smarttags"
Belize. If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will already have been billed £15 for the phone call.
If you do receive a card with these details, then please contact Royal Mail Fraud on 02072396655 or ICSTIS (the premium rate service regulator) at www.icstis.org.uk

Check the last entry on this page before doing anything else....

The scam is over one year old and ICSTIS say the number is no longer in operation (though I haven't tried it myself!)

Always worth being aware of this kind of thing - 09 is a premium number and can cost you lots of money. The problem with these scams is that they quickly mutate into something new (some other type of delivery card or letter) and because the perps simply do a bunk with the cash, they just keep coming.

Anything that uses an 09 number should be treated as highly suspect.

Forewarned is forearmed. Or something.
