We tried the freeview thing but the reception in our area is abysmal, so went back to Sky. I know it's expensive, but there is always *something* on worth watching which is more than can be said for the terrestrial 4.5 channels!
I think that Eurosport might be going off the old analogue satellite soon as well, or at least the audio feed is only going to be in German.
Sky are launching their own freeview equivalent, which might be worth seeing if that's any cheaper:
