I think that an even bigger rip off is those that charge you VAT, there is a guy in norfolk who trades on ebay & wants VAT on everything

Chris.

When I buy stuff on my credit card they never say "oh, I have to add on 4% into the charges now" - the item is costed to reflect those charges in the price already.

This is the thing that stinks - it's like the "budget" airlines that offer flights for 2p, but then add surcharges, charges, credit-card charges, luggage check-in charges and then still turn up late.

I tend to add the 4% if selling something expensive, like Nat said,it can cost you £20+.On cheaper things forget it.If you don't want to pay by paypal, you can always send a cheque, postal order or bankers draft. The choice is yours. As for the protection Paypal gives,i paid for something from Italy, nothing arrived,i sent an e-mail everyday,no reply.I put in a grievance through Paypal;lo and behold i got an e-mail from the seller stating that they had lost my details,pc was down etc and they would send the item immediately,In the meantime Paypal refunded my money.Which was great. The seller wasn't happy, because they were now relying on me to be honest and pay when the stuff arrived!!It did arrive and i promptly paid.I can see Paul James point of view where he got stung, but from my side,i could have got stung but Paypal sorted it.Good and bad points from both sides methinks.

VAT is a tricky one, if you live in the uk and buy anything vat rated from a vat registered seller its the law that you pay it. the seller doesnt get it Customs and excise get it. They would rather not collect it for the VAT man.

If you list an item as 'Plus VAT' then the uk buyers get upset (not sure why, you pay it on everything else you buy new in this country)

If you list it as including VAT then the international bidders get upset as it makes tricky for them to calculate what the actual cost is.

Ebay is an interntional market place, so you have to account for the whole world.

What's the answer???
